Propaganda and Community Links for Trent Radio AGM 13 Feb 00 prepared by Emily Addison It seems to have been a busy year for the Propaganda and Community Links committee even though not an amazing amount of stuff has been done. Perhaps this is due to work done outside of the 'Propaganda and Community Links' realm but still some exciting things did happen within P&C... The CBC program 'On the Road Again' was contacted with the suggestion that they might feature Trent Radio on their program. A response was received and they may contact us in the future. Radio on the Lawn was held in April and was great fun thanks to all the volunteers and to the weather. It was an afternoon of goofy interviews, games and music. The purpose was to make community members more aware of Trent Radio. Passers by became very aware of the 'action' on the lawn of Trent Radio. They could also have caught it in the Peterborough Examiner the next day. I can't wait for this next year's! A remote broadcast was held from the Trent University podium during introweek - organised by Barb Woolner and John Muir. First year students in the vicinity became aware of Trent Radio through our visual presence and listeners were also aware of our presence through the radio waves! Great day! A morning of programming for concurrent education students was organised in the fall. The purpose was to make 'potential teachers' aware of the potential of radio as tool for education. It seems to have been a successful morning in at least some way - I received an email this week for one of the students involved who now wants to do a regular education show (no kidding)! The issue of the potential pulling of Trent University from the downtown core was brought up by Propaganda and Community links due to the fact that it might affect the community, Trent Radio, and the relationship between the two. Resulting from this, the board passed a resolution. This resolution was then put into poster form. It was also delivered in a letter to the president of the university, and by email to the Senate and the Board of Governors. Also....VERY exciting news was that John Muir was able to set up a live Internet test broadcast as of February 6th. There still needs to be some work done on making a permanent address etc. but we right now broadcasting live in the Internet....Freaky! Finally, in the works.... Bumper stickers for Trent Radio are in the works. The 'best' deal in town has been found. Some designs have been done but a call is being put out to those involved at Trent Radio for more designs. Also, live music day should be coming up this spring. It is a chance not only to promote Trent Radio but also to promote local musicians. Some musicians have already been approached and are quite enthusiastic. A date will hopefully be set soon so stay tuned! Thanks for the wonderful opportunity of sitting on the board ... it was a lot of fun and a great learning experience, Emily Addison
