Subject: Revenue & Spons. suggestions Date: Wed, 05 Apr 2000 10:29:53 -0400 From: Alec Kirkcaldy To: jkmuir@trentu.ca John, Some follow-up points from our meeting of March 29, 2000 By and large, I think the sponsorship brochure is very well done. I like its professional, yet folksy tone. The coverage map, schedule, list of current sponsors and 'sponsor' explanation are all well done. The only changes that I might suggest are cosmetic in nature and include the following: 1. Under the call letters and 92.7, we should include (95.3 cable) and www.trentu.ca/trentradio and thus let potential sponsors know that Trentradio does not rely on its broadcast signal alone. We are up-to-date, on-line and using modern technology that allows our sponsors to get their messages out to a potential world-wide audience. The web address appears on the inside leaf, but we should have it on the front page as an indicator of our 'streaming' capacity. 2. The phrase 'Doing what we love to do for over 30 years' sounds somewhat self-indulgent and could be misconstrued by potential sponsors. I think we both agreed that something like 'Serving the Peterborough community for the last 30 years and loving every minute of it' would basically say the same thing and imply a better sense of participation for/by all concerned. 3. The sponsorship rates section could be presented a little clearer. The grey box area is difficult to read and not immediately eye-catching. The lowered summer season rates might also be given a fuller explanation. The basic sponsorship section at the top is excellent and attention grabbing. 4. It would be a nice touch if we could substitute the Peterborough town clock for the Eiffel Tower, as you suggested at our meeting. Otherwise the coverage map, like the rest of the artwork, has an eye-pleasing, uncluttered feel and projects the spirit of the station, without being too radical 5. The sample of items included in the schedule are good choices and give a nice overview of the type of programming produced on Trentradio. 6. The 'Purely Canadian' logo on the back page is somewhat misleading and should probably read 'Proudly Canadian'. Trentradio diligently includes Canadian content, but also includes programming that covers the world in terms of artists and persons/topics of interest. In regard to other sponsorship/fundraising issues discussed in our meeting, I would like to suggest the following: 1. That we compile an up-to-date list of past and current sponsors 2. That we produce a sample tape of a support acknowledgement and a written transcript of same to be used in sales approaches 3. That we investigate the possibility of securing another syndicated, revenue producing radio show of one half hour in length (ideally) 4. That we conduct hard target searches for new sponsors with an approach that is uniform and professional, yet non-invading and open in nature 5. That the possibility of creating a temporary, full-time marketing/ fund-raising position be investigated through various ministerial application processes and foundation proposals Regards, Al
