General Manager Notes for the BoD Meeting 25 Jan 2001 John K Muir a) Financial Statements for the end of December 2000 shall be presented at the next BoD meeting. b) The Radio Marathon (Barb Holtmann and Barb Bell) was a wonderful success again this year. The total exceeds $1,000.00 and promised money is still coming in. A full report shall be presented at the next BoD meeting. c) Entra Season (see attached report) was very well handled by Chantelle Barrette and Gillian Veitch, with the assistance of some Trent Radio regulars. d) Trent Radio has agreed to provide audio production and technical operations for two Trent University "Flash" (web movie) presentations, at the rate of $250.00 per day. One is a day-in-the-life of a "typical" Trent student and the other pertains to research at Trent. As well, another series of five minute audio introductions to Trent U are to be produced ($50 each). In this same vein we recorded the Peterborough end of a double-ender interview with Prof Chris Metcalfe for the CBC's "This Morning" ($50). e) Your President and General Manager put in more than fifty- five hours cleaning and organising the upstairs office. f) Through equipment donations just prior to the end of the Fall season, the computer network have grown to five machines. In summary the stand alone archive data computer has been replaced by a Windows unit, Studio A is now three times faster, and Studio B appears to be about twenty times fast for some audio production operations. g) Repairs to a transmitter amplifier are proceeding more slowly (and more cheaply) than at first anticipated. The first quote we obtained for replacement transistors was $555US each. Instead six new "off brand" transistors were purchased for $425US total. Two have been installed (leaving two spare pair) and the amplifier is to be "burned in" this weekend, prior to reinstallation at the CHEX tower site, We have been on half power since the middle of November with only one complaint, which has been remedied h) Two or more flexducts blew off the the Upper Apartment plenum leaving one of tenants without heat in his room. The firm which did the original install in the fall of 1999 was called to repair the problem after an unsuccessful attempt was made by us. The last word on this was the Lakeshore Heating was going to do the work without charge. i) The brokered programming contract has been renewed for one year ending January 2002. Trent Radio receives about $9,700 a year for airing the the half-hour programme every weekday morning. j) The Board should be aware that Trent radio is contesting the Neighbouring Rights Collective of Canada's right to levy a fee under the terms of the Copyright Act. They have had several staff changes since we started our appeal one year ago, however, we do have a current email from their Executive Director stating that they will look in to our claim in due course. Sincerely // John K Muir, General Manager
