PROGRAMME DIRECTOR'S REPORT for Board of Directors Meeting 30 September 2001 Barb Woolner Pre-season Programming began September 4 (we were broadcasting 7:30am - 10:00pm Monday through Friday and 7:00am-4:00pm on Saturday). Deadline for programme proposals was Friday September 14 at noon. By this deadline, 63 proposals were submitted. 9 "lates" have been submitted. In total, this is several fewer than last year. Proposal Review Committee members were Christian Durand, Laura Farina, Paul Cleveland and Barb Woolner. Every proposal was reviewed and considered for broadcast. Comments and suggestions were added to each proposal. The Proposal Review Committee was impressed by the overall quality of the proposals. Most of the programme ides were clearly developed and thought through. I'd like to schedule them all! The popular idea for radio shows this year is "global perspectives" - world music shows, interviews with travellers and students and multilingual shows. In total 46 interviews have been conducted. The rest and will continue into this week. With fewer people to interview and interviewing previous programmers in August, this process is 1-2 weeks ahead of last year. Every applicant was invited to attend an information meeting and a studio training. 16 people have been trained in Studio A thus far. Several sessions occur throughout the past week and the following week Studio training has started one week ahead of last year (three weeks after Labour Day). "Introduction to Trent Radio" Meetings were held in September. Three meetings were held with 28 new Programmers attending. Fewer meetings were held with fewer attendees. I feel events in New York contributed to low attendance (people were at home watching news) A space in the schedule will be set aside for Special shows. This open show will primarily be used by people with great ideas for regular programmes but cannot be scheduled due to timetable conflicts. This time is also available for busy people who would like to do only a few shows a year. Scheduling has not started yet (by 19 Oct 2000, last year, this was 2/3 was completed). There have been scheduling challenges, so interviews were conducted first. The challenge is primarily limited availability of Programmers. Programming will satisfy licence requirements and CRTC content category requirements. If there are areas lacking, I will seek out programming to cover these areas. There was a Trent Radio table for club days at Symons campus. A remote broadcast was note held this year due to lack of volunteers. Note many long- term Trent Radio volunteers graduated in June.
