General Manager's Notes to Operations Report for BoD 23 Jan 2002 Transmitter troubles: Even after replacing various suspicious components our troubles continue. The problem appears to be coming from an intermediate (100 watt amplifier), which maybe to cause of spurious frequencies a few megahertz above and below our carrier at 92.7mHz. However, we are at full power. John Matthews at Promethean is making inquiries with Harris (the defacto manufacturer of the transmitter) as to our next step). My thanks to Paul Ward, CHEX Chief Engineer for teaching me the basics of how to use a spectrum analyser, and Paul Cleveland how attended the transmitter at a subsequent time - a very early Sunday morning - to make emission readings. Weekend Echo: On 19 January 2002, a trial of re-airing previously broadcast programmes on the Saturday following their first hearing went rather smoothly, once everything was set up. Sixteen and a half hours of "echo" programming was aired from 8pm Saturday to 12:30pm on Sunday. More trials are to follow before this practice if fully operational. Entra Season Programming was convened and directed by Al Kirkcaldy, during the two weeks following the regular Fall season. In addition Al also made early morning audits of the brokered programming over the new year while I was out of town. Many thanks it was all greatly appreciated. There is a discrepancy of about $6,500 between our expectations and Trent U calculation of monies to be received from Trent U on behalf of our students members. Clarifications are being sought. TISPOC; The Trent Institute for the Study of Popular Culture, was obliged to remove the last of its materials from the Abbott House garage, in anticipation of Trent U selling the property. As a result another thirty lineal feet of material, made of very compromised audio tape, is now sitting on shelves in the Trent Radio House basement. We hope to hear soon as the whether TISPOC will receive federal heritage monies to digitise these and other materials. Radio Project Days; Both Barb Woolner, PD and I were very impressed by the work and results of the twelve hour International Radio Day, "Briefs in your Suitcase" held on Tuesday, 22 Jan 2002. Yvonne Lai, Yimin Lam, and Kiren E, produced and organised the project and are to be heartily congratulated for a job well done. We are very much looking forward to the next Live Music Day, scheduled for Friday, 1 February 2002. Studio C: Work continues with a first draft budget and a series of questions being composed to be posed to programmers. The committee intend to have a report before the Board by the next Board Meeting. Audio Soup: Please see attached poster. News of former Trent Radio presidents; Rumour has it that Andrew Fogarasi (aka FOOG) will be in the Peterborough some time during the end of next week. In addition Andrew Cousins, is holding an open house at the new Kawartha Lakes Brewery facilities on Saturday, 9 February 2002. See attached for times and directions. Sincerely, John K Muir Trent Radio Vice president & General Manager.
