Report to the Board re: Trillium Foundation Grant Application John K Muir 30 Sep 02 Via email and then in a following telephone conversation with Jackie Powell (North & East Trillium Regional Program Manager), I was informed that at the Trillium Board meeting on Friday, 27 Sep 02, Trent Radio's Studio C Project application for $78,000 was approved. The project is to run over a two year period and involves the digital ingest of Trent Radio's entire audio archive, and the renovation of the emptied archive room into studio capable of recording and broadcasting round table discussions, radio drama, and light music pickups. In addition the current Studio B facility is to be reworked to accommodate two digital audio workstations with shared facilities for recording and producing radio programmes, and interviews. Terms: A Letter of Agreement will be sent by Trillium by 15 Oct 02 for us at Trent Radio to sign and return. This will provide the necessary authorisation to receive Trent Radio's first draw of the grant. Among other things the letter will state the terms of payment for the grant which are as follows. Payment #1 25% of the grant total or about $19,500 Upon Trent Radio's execution of the Letter of Agreement Payment #2 25% of the grant total or about $19,500 Six months into the project period, on or about 01 May 03 Payment #3 50% of the grant total or about $39,000 One year into the project period, on or about 01 Nov 03 The local Peterborough Trillium office will be organising a one day seminar on how to fill out their forms and properly report our activities. This is tentatively scheduled for Wed, 06 Nov 02. Publicity: We have been asked to wait until after 29 Oct 02 to make any public announcement regarding this grant. This will give the Trillium people an opportunity to update their own website with the grant. In addition the waiting period will allow our local MPP may wish to exercise his privilege to organise a cheque presentation event. A revised Project Period The original application submitted in March 2002, called for a May 2002 start with the project scheduled to finish at the end of November 2004. Given the grant application was delayed for six months, and the need for two summers to renovate and install studio equipment, I recommend that the project officially commence on 01 Nov 02 and finish on or before 31 April 2005. During the next weeks a posting for the Digital Ingest Clerk is to be prepared in anticipation of starting that job in January or February of next year. In addition ingest gear is to be re-specified to take into account technology changes over the last nine months and new quotes sought. This grant is a major step for this organisation There are always obligations when given money. It is my fervent hope that we will acquit ourselves prudently of these duties. This is a wonderful opportunity for us and our kind of radio to grow and show that we can do it all thoughtfully, with lots of good humour and well. Thank you I really want everyone to know how especially grateful I am to Miriam Stucky, the Chair of the Studio C Committee, for prodding and pushing (mainly me) and keeping the grant construction process moving. Thank you Miriam The Studio C Committee work was crucial to understanding how far we have come, and where the heck we think we want to go. In addition to all that, it looks like we have a grant to keep us all busy for the next while. Until then thank you all for you various and wonderful contributions in getting us to this stage. This might even be fun, eh? John K Muir, General Manager
