PROGRAMME DIRECTOR'S REPORT - for BoD 30 Sep 02 Barb Woolner - DRAFT #2 Pre-season Programming began September 3 (we were broadcasting approximately 7:30am - 10:00pm Monday through Friday and 7:00am-4:00pm on Saturday). Deadline for programme proposals was Friday 13 Sep 02 at high noon. By the deadline, 66 proposals were submitted with 16 proposals submitted late. To date, 82 proposals have been received. By Sept 30 2001, 63 proposals were submitted by the deadline and 9 submitted late. Proposal Review Committee members were Matt Brundage, Joel Buxton, Laurie Corpuz, Nicholas Currie, Laura Farina, Nick Iszakovits, Blair MacDonald, Emily McClung, Glenn White, Ryder Ziola and Barb Woolner. (In September 2001, there were 4 committee members). The Proposal Review Committee was impressed by the overall quality of the proposals. Most of the programme ideas were clearly developed and thought through. Those Programmers whose proposal was considered "incomplete" were contacted and encouraged to develop their proposal further. Every proposal was reviewed and feedback was offered. This feedback from the committee was presented during the Programmer interview. A popular idea for radio shows this year is "the written word" - books, literature, stories, poetry etc. Popular music genres are new rock and punk music. In September 2001, what was popular was "global perspectives" - world music shows, interviews with travellers and students and multilingual shows. In total 64 interviews have been conducted. Further interviews will continue into this week. (By September 30 2001, 46 interviews had been conducted). Every applicant was invited to attend an information meeting and studio training. 7 people have been trained in Studio A thus far. (By September 30 2001, 16 people had been trained) Studio training will take place regularly Thursdays 4:00-6:00pm. Additional sessions are scheduled in September to train the many newcomers. Introduction to Trent Radio Meetings were held in September. Two meetings were held with 9 new Programmers attending. Fewer meetings were held with fewer attendees. A "Special Shows" timeslot will be included again in this year's schedule. Scheduling (round 1) is underway. (By September 30, 2001 scheduling had not begun but by mid October, it was 2/3 was completed). The challenge is primarily that of matching timing and programmer availability - most programmers want to be on air Monday-Wednesday evening. No interest has been expressed in early morning programming. Little interest was expressed in programming Friday evening or on the weekends. "Echo" (rebroadcast) programming will be considered again this year. The broadcast schedule with programme descriptions and emails will be updated on the web page. A take home copy will be hand made and computer made. I hope to improve communications with Arthur so that our schedule and PSAs will be published. A new magazine to consider for promotions is SNAP (Sports News Arts Peterborough). The Open Line and City Council meetings, local political programmes simulcast with Cogeco will continue this season. Programming will satisfy licence requirements and CRTC content category requirements. If there are areas that need further attention, I will seek out programming to cover these areas. There was a Trent Radio table for club days at Symons campus. There seemed to be more first year students in attendance and many Volunteer forms and Programme Proposal were handed out. I also visited other Club tables to introduce myself and give out Trent Radio calling cards and PSA samples.
