MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF TRENT RADIO, held at 124 Dublin Street, Peterboro, Ontario, on Thursday, 20 April 1995 at 6:00 p.m. P R E S E N T : Andrew Cousins, Ingrid Harder, Jasmin Kay, Scott Gordon, Harrison J. Windeler and Andrew Fogarasi, being Directors of the Corporation. Also Present: Barb Woolner (Programme Director), John Muir (General Manager), Kristina Rawlings (Radio Drama Animator), Jon Andrews and Paul Cleveland (members) R E G R E T S : Rob Aitken, being a Director of the Corporation. The meeting was called to order with Andrew Cousins acting as Chair and Ingrid Harder acting as Secretary. With all the Directors being notified of the time and place of the meeting, and a quorum of directors being present in person, the meeting was declared regularly constituted. An agenda was agreed upon and discussion followed. Previous Minutes; Upon a motion duly made, seconded and carried, be it resolved that the minutes from the previous meeting of 2 March 2, 1995 be accepted. Summer Broadcasting Initiative Report Jon Andrews presented a series of proposals which had been generated at a meeting help at Trent Radio House to discuss this issue earlier in the month. Given the shortage of operating funds and the end of the full time academic year it proposed to broadcast a limited number of hours with out the benefit of full time staff support. Programming shall conducted and determined by the Summer Programme Committee, who shall be constituted from Operators also acting as producers for each of their evenings. Jon Andrews shall act as Committee Coordinator. This is an entirely volunteer initiative with a budget of $750.00 to be administer by the Summer Programming Committee Coordinator and the General Manager. Proposed broadcast periods shall be: Monday - Friday From 5pm to midnight or as programming warrants. Saturday & Sunday From 8am to 2pm with programmers Barb Bell & Teresa Morrow on Saturday, and Sean Ayre, Pat Sutton & Doug Mann Proposed Operators and Tentative Schedule: Monday: Gary Heuvel, Chris McNally & Sheryl Roper Tuesday: Jasmin Kay & Scott Gordon Wednesday: Brian Hughes Thursday: Mike Taylor & James Stone Friday: Kristina Rawlings Paul Cleveland and Jon Andrews shall act as Operators as needed. It is understood that there may have to be a complete shutdown for maintenance at some time. Also Mr. Andrews shall prepare a advertising policy for this period. Upon a MOTION duly made, seconded and carried, be it resolved that; the Trent Radio Summer Programming Committee shall administer programming for the period 22 May to 1 Sep 1995 as proposed. General Manager's Report First payment by Ray McGregor of $100 has been received. Discussion followed regarding the frequency change and power boost in the light of the referendum results (Trent Radio's referendum question did not meet quorum ... and neither did and other referendum). It is proposed that Trent Radio shall file an application for a clear frequency and an increased power of 350watts, and then shall to make the technical arrangements in stages according to available funds. The question is how are we going to raise the $25,000 to $30,000 required for this improvement. Discussion followed. Upon a MOTION duly made, seconded and carried, be it resolved that; Harrison J. Windeler be appointed chair of the Fundraising Committee to investigate alternative sources of income. Program Director's Report (attached) It was noted that Barb Bell wants to organize garage sale and needs support. Other Business: It was agreed in that Andrew Cousins and John Muir would further investigate and report as to the "Arthur's" interest in occupying the second floor apartment at Trent Radio House. It is contemplated that the University would become the tenant in this arrangement with three or five year lease providing for rental increases, allotment of liability, etc. Referendum: The Referendum (non) results were reported. Quorum was not met for the vote, hence no 7 dollar levy. Staff Layoffs: Upon a MOTION duly made, seconded and carried, be it resolved that; due to financial constraints, John K. Muir be laid off from full time employment as of 21 April 1995 with a recall to full time work scheduled for 5 September 1995. Upon a MOTION duly made, seconded and carried be it resolved that; John K. Muir be paid an honorarium of $60.00 per week to provide administrative and clerical support over the summer commencing 19 May 1995 It was noted at this time that Mr. Muir shall continue to act a General Manager. It was also noted at this time that the Programme Director's contract is due to expire on 19 May 1995. The Board expressed its appreciation for Barb Woolner's work. Special programming during the March For Jesus on May 27th. Upon a MOTION duly made, carried and seconded be it resolved that; the Board approve a special program on May 27, 1995 between the hours of 1pm and 5pm. A program outline will be filed and to be approved by the program committee. *It is to be noted that Harrison John will be personally responsible for all activities. . . within Trent Radio during the broadcast. Next Board meeting - tentatively scheduled for 18 Thursday 1995 at 6pm - Andrew Cousins will notify the members of the Board as to the location. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. (contact in 95-96: Rantal Dosanjh, Champlain College) Canadian Content Week *Celebration of Canadian artists; coincided with the Juno Awards(March31-April 2) Nest year, should promote more and get more programmers to participate. Band Interviews *Bands coming through Pterborough call TR to set up an interview. Bryan and I try to find an interviewer. An interview skills workshop would be good to train others; transfer of skills and all.
