TRENT RADIO MINUTES 4 April 1997 MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF TRENT RADIO, held at The Senior Common Room, Peter Robinson College, Trent University, Peterborough Ontario, on April 4, 1997. P R E S E N T: Barb Bell, Franca Cioffi, Andrew Fogarasi, Dean Girard, Lisa Howard, Danielle Tassie, and Emily Watkins. Also present: Barb Woolner, PD and John Muir, VP & GM The meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m. with Andrew Fogarasi acting as chair and Lisa Howard acting as secretary. With all the directors being notified of the time and place of the meeting, and a quorum present, the meeting was declared duly constituted. An agenda was agreed upon and discussion followed. Previous Minutes: Upon a motion duly made, seconded and carried be it resolved that the minutes of the previous meeting, held on 7 March 97 are accepted with minor changes. Frequency & Power: The part for our transmitter has arrived. The thermostatic/oven circuit which maintains the temperature of the crystal oscillator was broken. During the test, the temperature of the crystal kept rising so the transmitter would cut out. Industry Canada was satisfied with the test, but the transmitter did not continue to function. Trent Radio should be broadcasting again later today. Communications Plus lent us equipment during the test and has been generally very helpful. Programme Director's Report: Barbara Woolner reports that the King George school programming was a success. Other special programming in the last month included a day of programming on why Valentine's Day sucks, Black History Month, Women's Day programming, programming for Guides and Scouts, and St. Anne's School. In future though Barbara intends to do a little less special programming because it causes too many interruptions. It was the on-air broadcast of an Operators' meeting report which attracted the attention and support of Communications Plus. John Muir suggested that programme was in the spirit of Wawatei (a native communications organisation with community radio facilities in the North). There will be an end of season party at the Hangman Pub on April 20th. A summer programming meeting will be held on the same day at 1p.m. Manager's Report: Trent Radio is trying to contact Catfish Willie re: T.R.'s sign which needs to be changed to reflect the frequency change. Since Catfish created the sign it was felt that he should be consulted and/or have first crack at changing the sign. Otherwise Nicole Bauberger will be approached to do the work. Financial Report: There was no financial report this month. Committees: Propaganda & Publications: Tony Tarle has produced a sponsorship guide. It is in pamphlet form. Fundraising: Barb Bell having a banner made for Trent Radio with a fish design. She hopes that this will be available for Trent Radio's open house gathering next week. Barb is aiming to sell twenty more tickets on the busses to Casino Rama. Without the sale, we will only make six hundred dollars on the benefit. Her deal with the Casino includes a bonus for every bus sold after three. Special Programming: John Muir suggested that front money for the open house planned Wednesday April 9, 1997 was unnecessary. Franca Cioffi would be reimbursed for any expenses as long as she could provide receipts. Radio Reconnaissance & Outreach: Danielle Tassie has distributed propaganda to Warsaw, Lakefield and Douro. Dan and Dean Girard are working on a flyer to be distributed as well. Radio Links: Emily Watkins has given notice that she will not be around for most of the rest of her term as a Director. It is her intention to participate in Trent's Thailand programme. The next meeting was scheduled for 2 p.m., 24 April 97 at the Senior Common Room. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:30p.m. ___________________________ ____________________________ Andrew Fogarasi, Chair H. Lisa Howard, Secretary
