Summer Administator's Report for the BoD 15Aug97 Danielle Tassie Radio Project Days: The final project day of the summer was on Friday August 8th 1997, with the topic being "International Day", with international programming running from noon intil midnight. The day also included an open house from 2pm -6pm, and an international potluck at the station. A Press release about the day was faxed out to local newspapers, by John Muir. There were visitors on the day, and calls later from people tuning in due to the announcement in the Examiner. Summer Social: The first summer social was a lounge party held on Sunday July 13th 1997 for all Trent Radio summer volunteers. The party was held at the Gordon Best Theatre in Peterborough. Guests were asked to dress up in "lounge" style, and a few brave souls actually did this! We shared the evening at the Gordon Best Theatre with a showing of old National Film Board movies, which made for an interesting, if not surreal evening. The next social is an end of season picnic, on Sunday August 17th, on Armour Hill in Peterborough. All Trent Radio volunteers and their families are invited. Archiving Parties: There were three archiving parties this summer- one in the afternoon, the other two in the evening. They were all a great opportunity to get programmers and operators (and even their families!) together, while getting ALOT of work done, as the supply of new Cd's recieved was steady throughout the summer. Volunteers commented that they appreciated some of these at night, as they can make it after work hours, and there were also comments about enjoying learning about the ""behind the scenes" action of trent radio. I was glad to continue this Trent Radio tradition during the summer. Executive Producer Meetings: There were 4 of these meetings throughout the summer season, with all executive producers being invited. We discussed matters of scheduling, programming, any concerns of operators, as well as updating everyone on station happenings. Two of these were also Potlucks. Fall Planning: I (Danielle Tassie) have met with Barb Woolner on various occassions to discuss plans for the season. Barb and I revised the Programme Proposals, Operator Guides, and Programmer Guides. Tim Cromey is working on the layout and production of these publications. I have contacted Tony Tarle about the Trent Radio sticker, and this will go into the printers next week, with stickers for college intro kits, and to distribute during Intro week. Office Hours: Office hours remained 12 noon to 5pm Monday -Friday, during the summer season. As the summer went on office acitivity increased, with more calls and visitors, many of whom asking about fall programming. Station Tours: There were many informal tours of the station given throughout the summer; new students to Trent and Peterborough, new volunteers, and the new coordiator of the new Canadians Centre, Larry Tlydsley. Larry has expressed great intrest in getting people from the new Canadians Centre involved somehow with Trent Radio. Larry and a man from the centre, Ho San did an Interview with Dean Girard for International Day, and they will be in touch with Trent Radio again in the fall. Looking back over the summer, if ever given this type of opportunity again, I would put more emphasis on getting people introduced to Trent Radio this way - with tours and information. It seemed to spark great enthusiasm and further involvement with Trent Radio. My contract officially ends Friday August 15th, and there are still a couple of loose ends to finish up ( getting the stickers finished up), and I look foreward to being a part of events in the fall!
