PROGRAMME DIRECTOR'S REPORT for board meeting January 22 1998 Barb Woolner What has Happened? * I contacted Programmers in December for an end of season review. I only managed to contact half of the Programmers and intend to contact others by the next Board meeting. The review was informal in nature and I asked Programmers how the show was going; what they enjoyed about it; what they got out of it and what are their goals for the new season. Comments included: "It's fun!", "People are listening to us", "We've been getting positive feedback", "I like working with my co-host" (note: they were strangers in September and I set them up since they had similar interests), "I love sharing my music", "I like to make guests feel special", "I've met lots of people", "it's good for me to get practice public speaking", "I like to pre-tape my show" "The band interview that I did was really fun" "My shows are hit and miss so I have to organize my time better", "I enjoy talking to people", "I have learned about making judgments through the editing process", "recording lectures is interesting", "Doing a show helps me to focus; a sense of purpose", "It's a blast!", "I'd be nowhere without my Mommy", "I like listening to things that inspire me", "Learning the tech stuff is cool", "We're getting more comfortable as time goes on", "We always have more music to play and more to say than there is time for", "I look forward to it every week", "A great season!", "I get lots of calls from young people; shouldn't they be in bed at this hour?" Goals include: making a show opening tape with all the info, having theme based shows, inviting more guests, having a radio workshop at their school, willing to fill in if someone is sick, looking for more in studio musical guests, wanting to learn to use the on-air phone, wanting to work on the "sound" of the programme ie. making things sound smoother, concerned about Hip Hop music from the archive being stolen, having interest in remote broadcasting, experimenting and taking chances, implementing lots of silly ideas, using the remote recorder more, wanting to spend more time rooting through the archive, wanting to know how the turntables work, wanting a longer show I sounds like overall goals of Trent Radio are being met. Hearing these things gives me a great deal of job satisfaction. * Programme review of The Open Line (Wednesdays 7 - 8 pm) with Cogeco Cable 10.
