Trent Radio Minutes 29 January 1999 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING held at 751 George Street North, on 29 January 1999, at the hour of 2 o'clock in the afternoon. PRESENT: Emily Addison, Grant Ball, and Lauren Hughes. REGRETS: Barb Bell, Nancy Logger, Derek Martin, and Ellen Waterman. Also Present: John K. Muir, General Manager; and Barb Woolner, Programme Director. Notice of this meeting having been given to all the Directors at the previous meeting, the meeting was convened at 2:20 pm without a quorum, and therefore not duly constituted. It was noted that all decision made at this meeting would be presented and re gularised at the next duly constituted Board meeting. Grant Ball acted as Chair for the meeting, and Emily Addison acted as Secretary for the meeting. UPON A MOTION duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous Board of Directors' meeting, held on 18 December 1998, were approved. Business Arising: It was noted that there was business arising, but that it would be presented in the Operations and Committee reports. Operations Report: The General Manager introduced the Operation report. Melanie Hannah had produced a written report on the EntreSeason (see attached). It was noted that she did an excellent job and that the people working with her over the break respected her position as she was committed and well organised. Barb Woolner presented the Programme Director's report (see attached). Highlighted were the new shows for this season, the success of the open house and the live music day, as well as the enjoyment of the marathon. There are also many other special event s coming up this spring that were noted. John K Muir presented the General Manager's report (see attached). The financial statements ending 31 December 1998 were presented subject to adjustments (see attached). The renewal the half hour of brokered programming was confirmed to the end of January 2000. The Board will need to consider the purchase of two newer computers by the end of the summer as they will be required for the administration of the organisation. The continuing dedication by many on the evolving computer system at Trent Radio was also noted. A status report on the computer system prepared by Sean Daniels was presented (see attached). A report on the "Live Music Day" held at Trent Radio on Tuesday, 19 January, 1999, prepared by Morgan B.D. Merritt was presented (see attached). It was note that the event was a great success and a CD is expected in the next few weeks. A Radio Drama report prepared by Stephen Moffitt was presented (see attached). Scripts and actors have been chosen, and production and rehearsals are underway. Committee Reports: Board Development: Grant Ball's report included the announcement that the meeting at the Peterborough Library has been postponed until 7pm on 16 February 1999 for those who who would be interested in attending. Fundraising and Membership: A financial report prepared for Barb Bell was presented outlined the revenues of the Radio Marathon day (held 18 & 19 Dec98) and related items. (see attached) Physical Plant and Technical: A report prepared by Derek Martin was presented (see attached). It was noted that Lori Young had been hired under the OWS Programme, as a maintenance position and a vacuum cleaner had been purchased for $30. Propaganda and Community Links: Emily Addison presented a written report (see attached.) Highlights included that she had not heard from 'On the Road Again', subsequent to her letter, but that she would continue to try to make contact. It was also noted was that she will be preparing 'propaganda' about Trent Radio to be aired on the station. Social Secretary: A report prepared by Ellen Waterman was presented (see attached), including the names of specific guests that she is hoping to arrange for the Radio Salons. There is also the hope of getting her experimental music group to perform at the next Salon. Spoken Work Archive: A report prepared by Nancy Logger was presented outlining what the spoken work archive is and what those involved have been working on to further its uses (see attached). Music Committee: Lauren Hughes presented her report in which she stated the fact that companies and artists are somewhat confused on the fact that Trent Radio does not use tracking. (see attached) She has therefore been directing those interested to check out Trent Radio 's website.
