Physical Plant & Technical UPDATE --- 15 January 1999 Derek Martin Over the Christmas break a few treats materialised at Trent Radio. After a long wait, we have acquired, yes, that's right!!! a vacuum cleaner! ($30) Now we can vacuum? with the rest of them ... Lori Young took on the OWSP maintenance position just before the end of the Winter season. The other recent major change was the addition of the Trent Radio LAN (local area network) - see Computer Systems report. This means that the Studio A (on air) computer, the Studio B (production) computer, and the downstairs computer can all use the same software, and share files. Furthermore they are all sharing a very fast cable modem internet connection. The implications of this are vast. Of immediate use is the ability to play audio directly from the internet (just like from any other audio source, click the file to play, and fade up the sliders). This also means that if independent bands have audio on the internet, that we can bypass the middlemen and play it directly from them. Sounds like the true spirit of Trent Radio coming through loud and clear. Another useful little on-line ditty is the ability to fill out play sheets on the computer screen. It's easier than you might think, and we encourage everyone to use it, as it saves a lot of paperwork, and makes them easily publishable to the Web . Also available on the networked computers are instructions for the use of the various bits of equipment in the studios. This may be under construction and updating for some time yet, but it will be very useful. The possibilities are endless, let your minds expand.
