PROGRAMME DIRECTOR'S REPORT 5 March 1999 Barb Woolner What has Happened? * Radio Project Day. Friday February 12. Celebrating the Diaspora of world cultures. The co-ordinator is Kevin Ho who helped out with last years' day. * Radio Special. Sunday February 14. Why Valentine's Day Sucks part five with Steve May. * SOCAN review days were January 31 - February 2 and copies of the music sheets were emailed to SOCAN. * CRTC requested logger tapes and programme logs for Monday, 15 February 99. This is a random survey and requested material was dropped off at the CRTC this week. * New volunteers. Several new volunteers have started hanging around the station. They have learned studio B and have made station IDs. They are learning about the station from the Operators. * New OSWPer. Kristine Williams has replaced Nathan Dunsmoor in the spoken word archive data entry job. * Operators' lunch. Held in February at the UnderDog. * Radio Special. One Girl Guide group visited the station and prepared a Special. * Reading Week Notes. This year things went relatively smoothly during this week. Most student programmers prerecorded their shows or made arrangements for their backup tape to be aired. In some cases, regular programmers did Special or fill-in programmes. * Lots of callers. There have been more calls than usual to me (or my voicemail) about the quality of programmes. Some were first time listeners. Some were wondering the artist aired at a certain time. Some wanted to send in announcements. * World Music article in Examiner. Check out March 4th's Examiner for a story on World Music in Peterborough. Writer, Sheri Fiegehen came to Trent Radio looking for story leads. * A new programme: Asian Rhythms Saturdays 6-7 Yvonne Lai and students of Asian Dialogue at Trent What is Happening? * New Programme Proposals. Last years' proposals were reviewed and edited. Grant Ball has agreed to work on the layout. These should be available by the end of March. * CRTC Campus/Community Radio Review. They are asking for comments on the proposed new policy by April 12. A hard copy is available at the station and it is also on the CRTC website. * On-air and technical training is scheduled for Thursdays at 11:30. Studio B trainings are Tuesdays at 11:00. Alternate times are Tuesday night at 6:45 with the Operator. * Programme Review. I have been meeting with programmers to discuss how their programmes are going. This process is still takeing place so I will report back at the next meeting. What is Coming Up? * Radio Project Day. Thursday, 11 March. Celebrating International Women's Week. Co-ordinators are Chrissy Poulos and Amelia McNabb and the schedule is now full. * Radio Project Day. Wednesday, 31 March. Aboriginal Voices. The co- ordinator is Lisa-Marie Milliken again this year. * Radio Project Day. April tba. Storytelling/Folklore Day. * Programming Ideas Workshop. tba * Visit TISA (Trent International Students Assoc) and TUNA (Trent University Native Students Assoc) meetings to talk about radio programming and plans for next year. * Festival of Women and the Arts. They are holding a music contest and Barb will be a judge. I have not heard from the organizer so I do not know if this is still on. * even more Girl Guide groups plan to visit Trent Radio.
