Propaganda and Community Links Committee Report for the BoD 07 May 99 Prepared by Emily Addison 'Radio On The Lawn' day took place on 13 April 1999 which was a wonderful success. The volunteers did a wonderful job and it was so much fun! It may be useful to outline what was involved with the project and I would propose that an outdoor event, such as this, be mounted each season. Weather was of course the main factor...we wished for good weather and got it. We obtained ply-wood sheets to act as a ground cover. This let us setup chair and table and radio equipment outside without having to worry about damage to the lawn and muck. Lawn chairs were also found and proved handy. John Muir set up the technical stuff, using his own microphones. This was of great help and started off a wonderfully smooth technical afternoon. Barb bought balloons, sidewalk chalk, streamers and bubbles which added *a lot* of atmosphere to the event which drew people in. Planning began about a month in advance with regular check ups with John and Barb on advice etc. Thanks for the help, both of you. Ads were placed in the Arthur and the Peterborough Examiner, although next time, I believe more publicity should be done over the air and through postering. Next time everyone should bring a "Walkman" type radio so that the participants can hear themselves and a BF radio should be brought as well so that it can be heard out loud. Of course though, the thing that "made" the day were the different people who signed up for events. The "blind date" scheme worked very well, and in addition there were interviews on the lawn, and live music. Everyone that got involved did an incredible job and made it work. One of the highlights was the arm wrestling between Jason Boudreau and a passer by on Nathan Dunsmoor's back with Mark Whiting announcing, but everyone was incredible and there were highlights of every half hour ... and who could forget the announcement made by Barb Bell to Barb Woolner! (a live announcement of a charity raffle winner) In terms of Trent Radio 'community links', it was successful in that some members of the general public dropping by or participating in the event. There was a picture in the Peterborough Examiner, and Cogeco Cable came by to video tape part of the event. I also call this a success in terms of links because it allowed quite a few 'Trent Radioites' to meet each other which was super. Thanks to John to held the party at his house afterwards. Quite a success! I am sure that I have left out lots but it would make this report a novel so I will stop here. I hope to organise another in the summer.
