We are now hiring staff for this station which is located in Cole Harbour (Halifax area), Nova Scotia. CHCN will serve communities that are geographically separate and culturally diverse. CHCN 106.9 FM JOB DESCRIPTION (DRAFT) Position: Program Manager Reports to: Station Manager CHARACTERISTICS Superior communicator with strong interpersonal and organizational skills Excellent ability to train and motivate others Cooperative, team oriented, and flexible Observant and able to spot potential problem situations QUALIFICATIONS On-air broadcast experience and familiarity with broadcast equipment Community radio programming experience with skills in radio production techniques Experience in volunteer training, leadership and supervision Good working knowledge of CRTC regulations Computer proficiency TASK DIMENSIONS 1. Programming Set the programming schedule, in cooperation with the Station Manager, programming staff, and the programming committee Review suggestions of programming staff and volunteers and refer to the Station Manager Monitor all programs to ensure compliance with station and CRTC rules, regulations, and quality standards Monitor all sound content and quality of pre-produced materials Ensure that programming is recorded on logger tapes daily and that tapes are maintained 2. Administration and Reporting Assist the Station Manager in preparation of the CRTC Promise of Performance Assist the Station Manager with grant applications related to programming Prepare written materials about programming for promotional use Prepare reports on station programming as requested Report any technical problems to the Station Manager in a timely manner Prepare programming related budgets in conjunction with the Station Manager 3. Programming Volunteer Leadership Assist the Volunteer Coordinator in developing a recruitment and training program for on-air volunteers (including proper use of equipment and radio production techniques) Enforce the Promise of Performance by ensuring that volunteers adhere to the standards Ensure that all programming policies and procedures are followed. Ensure that all time slots are filled, and arrange for fill-ins when vacancies occur Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to audition and select new programming volunteers Report disciplinary or other problems (e.g. theft) to the Station Manager immediately Work with station engineer to ensure that all equipment is well maintained and used properly CONDITIONS Flexible working hours Required to be on-call, or delegate authority, in the event a programmer fails to show for their program Fill in for the Station Manager during his or her absence Fund development Other duties as assigned Note: Must be in receipt of Employment Insurance benefits or have received EI benefits during the past three years.
